Renowned Southside restaurant to close after five ‘ wonderful’ years

-

ONE of Glasgow’s most celebrated restaurants is set to close this month.

Julie’s Kopitiam opened five years ago in the city’s Southside with renowned chef and former Masterchef quarter- finalist Julie Lin at its helm.

The small but mighty spot has since gone on to receive a staggering list of accolades thanks to its menu of authentic Malaysian dishes and just last week was featured in an episode of The

Hairy Bikers Go Local.

In a shock announcement last night, Julie took to Instagram to share the news of the Kopitiam’s imminent closure. She said: “Hello everyone, we have some news. It’s the fondest of farewells.

“I opened the Kopitiam when I was 26 years old, I had a blast throwing myself in at the deep end.

“Over half a decade has passed and I am ready to explore my next steps in this exciting culinary world. “So for many combined reasons it’s time to cool down the wok, and my only focus is on the positives of what the Kopitiam has brought to my life and many others.

“I’m closing our doors with a heavy heart, but I remain proud and excited for the future, please share with myself and the team, the positive reflections of the Kopitiam on 1109 Pollokshaws Road.” While the Shawlands eatery is set to close, Julie took the opportunity to remind customers of her hugely popular restaurant GaGa in Partick which will remain open.

She said: “I’ve opened another restaurant now called @ gaga. glasgow and I can’t wait to cook for all of you in there. But for now, Shawlands, it’s a fond farewell.”
