Making residents now pay for their parking is absurd

- Keith Fuller

THIS sort of thing is happening all over the city ( Residents ‘ heartbroken and disgusted’ by plans to end free parking, Monday).

The fact is, Labour bankrupted the council by their policy of paying low wages to women and then refusing to settle with them when they were offered the chance and ending up with a massive defeat in court which has left the city searching for new cash for decades. We are not suffering from amnesia.

So, no doubt the SNP/ Greens are rubbish – personally, I wouldn’t vote for them – but that’s neither here nor there. Labour are to blame for the city’s financial mess which is the root of the fact that every penny is now being squeezed out of residents and the city is a dump.

The Tories, by the way, are cruel and the Liberals irrelevant and a waste of space.

AB Dickson

THE council have indicated that the revenue from this “scheme” will be used entirely in the running of the scheme.

Beyond parody. Charles Dickens is alive and well. Moron economics. Only a “public service” body could advocate such lunacy.

Michael Devaney

WE’VE had the council tax freeze gimmick, cars priced out of the city centre, reduced revenue from business due to Covid/ closures, I can see them going like Edinburgh and having parking permits everywhere, it’s one of the only guaranteed income streams.

PS – that £ 18m footbridge won’t pay for itself.

DC

A PARKING permit should be free to those who live there.

Bloody terrible.

Catherine Gibson

WHEN will people realise that the SNP Glasgow City Council they voted in want to create these zones all over Glasgow to reduce the amount of cars for the climate target that they signed up to?

John Bones

I CAN’T store my private property on public space, so why should cars be treated differently?

Sorry, but we all pay for the roads and infrastructure.

I don’t want it wasted for cars to take naps on.

Use the space for wider pavements and bike lanes.
