Street food vendor reveals ‘ secret’ takeover of Julie’s

A NEW ‘ authentic’ Thai street food vendor is set to take over the Julie’s Kopitiam unit in Glasgow at the end of the month.

Chawp Pet Noi, a popup vendor specialising in ‘ authentic Thai and northern Thai cuisine’ announced the ‘ little secret’ yesterday.

We previously reported that Julie’s Kopitiam, opened by former MasterChef quarterfinalist Julie Lin five years ago, was set to close.

Julie took to Instagram to announce the closure on Monday while reassuring fans of her award- winning cuisine that her West End restaurant GaGa would remain open.

Now, owners of Chawp Pet Noi, which means ‘ I like it a little bit spicy’, are finally able to spill the beans about their takeover of the unit.

Owners took to social media to announce that their acquisition of the unit was ‘ official’ and they could finally let the community in on the burning ‘ secret’.

They wrote: “As some of you may well be aware, Julie’s Kopitiam announced earlier today that they will finally shut their doors after five years of providing outstanding Malaysian cuisine to you all, we know that they will be sadly missed as they have been somewhat of an institution in the local community. However, when one door closes, another one opens, therefore we think it’s about time to let you all in on a little secret, something we have been biting our tongue about for the past couple of weeks.”

Chawp Pet Noi will secure the keys to the unit after the final day of service for the Kopitiam at the end of the month.

The exciting new eatery is expected to open in midMarch to ‘ fill the void’ on Pollokshaws Road.

The owners wrote: “We are extremely excited to have this opportunity and we believe our food can help fill the void that Julie and her staff’s departure will leave behind.”
