Community centre to host free ceilidh

- BY MORGAN CARMICHAEL

AN EAST End community centre is hosting a free ceilidh concert for families this month.

In collaboration with Glasgow Life, the Barrowfield Community Centre will be putting on the free event on January 27.

Kicking off at 2pm, the event will host a range of live singers and dances and will include free food and drinks for attendees.

Kristeen Papworth, community hub co- ordinator at Barrowfield Community Centre, told the Glasgow Times: “Everyone is really struggling with the cost of living right now, and it’s making it really difficult for people to afford to go to these events.

“So, this is a way to get the community together and allow for people to connect and get out of the house.”

The East End centre, which previously held the event last October, will oversee the setting up of the seating and decorations, as well as providing the snacks and beverages.

Kristeen said: “It is a fantastic, fun event and all families are welcome to come along.

“We also have a bunch of good singers for people to enjoy too.”

A spokesperson for Glasgow Life added: “Glasgow Life Arts and Music team is working with Barrowfield Community Centre to host another free family ceilidh, following the success of the first one held in October last year.

“This is a great way for members of the local community to connect with each other and combat loneliness.

“We regularly work with local groups, linking people with activities that interest them in their local area.

“Research shows this is a great way to improve mental well- being, have some fun and make new friends.

“Everyone is welcome to attend.”
