Tuipulotu vows to add trophies at Warriors after agreeing new deal

-

SIONE TUIPULOTU has set his sights on winning some silverware with Glasgow Warriors after agreeing terms on a two- year contract extension which will keep him at the club until at least the summer of 2025.

The 25- year- old, who has been on red- hot form for both Warriors and Scotland this season, arrived at Scotstoun from Japanese side Yamaha Jubilo in the summer of 2021 and has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.

He has made 30 appearances and scored four tries for Glasgow to date, captained the side for the first time in their victory over the Vodacom Bulls back in October, and was named the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for December.

The Australian- born centre qualifies to wear the thistle through his grandmother from Greenock, and now has 11 caps to his name. He scored his first two international tries in Scotland’s win over Argentina in the recent Autumn Test series, and he is expected to play a key role in this year’s Six Nations.

“I’m incredibly settled here, and I’m really enjoying life not just with the club, but in the city in general,” said

Tuipulotu. “I tell a lot of people back home that Glasgow’s like my second home, and I can’t see myself living anywhere else. It reminds me a lot of Melbourne, where I grew up – apart from the weather, obviously!”

“My main goal is to win something for Glasgow,” he added. “When you’re walking around Scotstoun, you’re constantly bumping into guys who have won the league – guys like Pete Horne, Pete Murchie [ both are now assistant coaches at the club] and Al Kellock [ the club’s managing director].

“That motivates me to bring this club back to the top end of the league.”

Warriors head coach Franco Smith added: “Sione is someone who forms a big part of our plans for the future – he’s really bought into what we are doing here and he’s become a big leader within our playing group.”

Warriors are currently on a sevenmatch winning streak and will book a home draw in the last- 16 of the Challenge Cup if they beat Bath at Scotstoun on Friday night.
