1919 One of the most successful managers in Football League history, Bob Paisley, was born. He joined Liverpool from Bishop Auckland as a player in 1939 and stayed more than 40 years with the club. He took over from Bill Shankly as manager in 1974 and led the club to six league titles, three European Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA and European Super Cups once each. He died in 1996.

2006 The Football Associatio­n confirmed Sven- Goran Eriksson would leave his position as England manager after that summer’s World Cup in Germany. 2016 West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpau­l announced his internatio­nal retirement after a career which saw him amass over 20,000 runs across all three formats. 2018 Phil Neville was named manager of England’s women’s team. The former Manchester United and Everton defender faced criticism for some old tweets featuring sexist jokes.
