Thug attacked man with blade in busy street in broad daylight

- BY GRANT MCCABE

A THUG brutally slashed a man who had earlier hurled hot tea over his sick father.

David Dollin was captured on CCTV attacking James Dunn in broad daylight on busy Saracen Street in Possilpark on June 4, 2021.

The footage captured the 35- year- old – with his hood up – pouncing on Mr Dunn as he stood beside his bicycle chatting.

A young child was close by at the time of the horror attack.

Prosecutor Paul Harvey yesterday told the High Court in Glasgow how the victim was struck five or six times with a blade on the head, neck and torso.

He required surgery for his injuries which included a nasty six- inch wound to his neck. Mr Harvey said: “Police searched the area and seized the CCTV. Officers recognised Dollin as the assailant.”

Dollin – who already had a history of violence – yesterday pleaded guilty to an attempted murder charge.

The hearing was told there had earlier been an “altercation” between Dollin’s father and Mr Dunn outside the older man’s home.

Patricia Baillie, defending, said: “Dollin Sr had challenged Dunn who appeared to be engaged in some sort of anti- social behaviour.

“Dunn threatened him with violence and, thereafter, threw a cup of hot tea at him.

“Mr Dollin’s father has cancer and had been discharged from hospital a fairly short time prior to this.

“Mr Dollin was told of this incident and that Dunn had made his way to Saracen Street.

“He was incensed, went there and found him.”

Lord Summers remanded Dollin in custody and deferred sentencing for reports until February 17 in Edinburgh.
