Roads to close for filming of Lockerbie disaster drama

-

A NUMBER of roads in Glasgow will close to allow for the filming of a new TV series based on the Lockerbie disaster starring Colin Firth.

Filming for the series, understood to be called Flight 103, will take place across the city from Wednesday, February 28 until Sunday, March 3.

On December

21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103, which was travelling from London to New York, exploded over Lockerbie killing all 259 passengers and crew and 11 of the town’s residents.

Former Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al- Megrahi is so far the only person who has been convicted in relation to the bombing after being found guilty of 270 counts of murder in 2001.

The new drama, from Carnival Films and Sky Studios, is told from the perspective of Jim and Jane Swire who lost their daughter Flora in the atrocity and is based on Jim’s book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice.

Actor Colin Firth, who has been spotted on set in Linlithgow, will play him in the five- part series.

To accommodate filming for Flight 103 in Glasgow, a series of road closures will take place in the East End and city centre.

Closures will apply to all vehicles, except for emergency services or vehicles given permission from Glasgow City Council, and pedestrian movements will be restricted during scene action for safety reasons.

The closures will affect Molendinar Street, Gallowgate, Watson Street, Spoutmouth, Cochrane Street, South Frederick Street, George Street, George Square, Montrose Street, Ingram Street and John Street.
