A LEAVERS’ prom has been postponed after police were called to “serious vandalism” at a Glasgow secondary school.

Officers launched a probe after the prank was staged at Rosshall Academy in Crookston on Friday morning.

Glasgow City Council has now confirmed the event has been postponed due to the “unacceptable behaviour of some pupils”.

It also labelled the prank “totally unacceptable” and said it “compromised the health and safety of students and staff ”.

One parent said: “It’s been blown out of proportion in a story that grew arms and legs. It’s a common thing seen in many schools in the country.

“I feel it’s unfair to punish a full school year so drastically for a 10- minute event. For many of them, the only crime committed was simply that they were there innocently to celebrate their last day of childhood.”

In footage circulating on social media, flares and small fireworks appear to have been let off in the school building.

Officers can also be seen attending the incident. No one was injured.

It comes as hundreds of senior pupils are beginning study leave.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, due to the unacceptable behaviour of some pupils, the school has been left with no other option but to postpone the annual S6 prom. We understand this is disappointing for many young people, however, the school is now looking to hold an alternative celebratory event at a later date.

“These acts of vandalism are totally unacceptable and have caused serious damage to school property, as well as having compromised the health and safety of students and staff.

“The incident has been reported to the police to be investigated and anyone with any information should contact the police.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On around 10.45am on April 19, we received a report of a disturbance within a premises on Crookston Road, Glasgow.

“There are no reported injuries. “Enquiries are ongoing.”
