NURSERY children took part in a sponsored danceathon last week in a bid to help alleviate child poverty.

Kids from Cardonald Nursery in the South of Glasgow danced every day from Monday to Friday to raise funds for Cash for Kids who support youngsters affected by poverty, abuse, and neglect.

Each day the little ones danced and dressed up to a new theme including nursery rhymes, eighties karaoke, and dancing Disney.

Maggie McGuire, manager at the nursery, said: “The children had a brilliant time, they danced so much and dressed up all week.

“By Friday they were all exhausted I think, but we’re really proud of them, we always are.”

On Thursday, the theme was eighties throwback, and saw the kids visited by Clyde One radio presenters George Bowie and Cassi.

Maggie said: “George and Cassi were so good with the kids.

“They had nursery rhyme songs on and even danced with the children and took pictures with them.”

Maggie added: “I think our staff and parents were even more excited than the kids.”

The nursery has so far raised just short of £ 1000 from the danceathon with a little help from local businesses who boosted funds by donating raffle prizes.

Businesses included G. H Davidson Butchers, One Shop, Bella Fresca, and Elma’s Hair Stylists.

All the money raised, which is still being donated and counted, will go towards Cash for Kids.

Maggie said: “We wanted to give back to the field that we work in ourselves.

“We work with children and we see poverty among it.

“Some of our kids have parents who are working and are financially fine, but then you have the other side of that which is family and kids in poverty, and we see a lot of that.

“We see a lot of people working and still struggling, so naturally we thought Cash for Kids was a great choice.”

Cardonald Nursery was one of seven who took part in the funding drive for Cash for Kids.
