- By OLIVIA SCULL ADVERTISING FEATURE

TIME is running out to put forward your health service hero for the Gloucestershire NHS70 Awards.

In honour of the NHS’ 70 birthday, we are celebrating the outstanding care and community support in the county and readers have just over one week left to take part.

Nominations close on Friday, August 24 so head to gloucestershirenhs70awards.co.uk to vote for someone you believe has gone the extra mile to help others.

The awards recognise anyone working in or alongside the NHS, who have retired from service but have made a lasting impression for their care, are compassionate and innovative or anyone linked to the NHS and the work it does.

You can nominate a single person, team or place of care.

The awards recognise care and support in people’s homes, GP surgeries, communities and in hospitals and involve the care for both physical and mental health.

The 13 categories celebrate community partnerships, development of active, healthy communities, equality and diversity and innovation. There are also special awards for young professionals (NHS Futures) and lifetime achievement.

We think these awards are a wonderful way to showcase the healthcare talent in the county and it seems we aren’t the only ones to think so.

Dr Andy Seymour, clinical chair of NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “This is a fitting way to celebrate 70 years of the NHS here in Gloucestershire.

“It’s a great opportunity for the public to show their support by nominating someone today.

“With individual and team categories and a range of other awards celebrating innovation and health improvement, a nomination could give them the recognition they deserve.”

His views were echoed by Ingrid Barker, joint chair of Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust and 2gether NHS Foundation Trust.

She said: “Every year thousands of people across our county need both physical and mental health care and support.

“These awards are a great way to highlight the dedication, commitment and resilience of these very caring and special staff and teams who often work under great pressure.

“The NHS70 Awards are also about celebrating how far the service has come and the categories therefore are open to truly inspiring people who have achieved great things over the decades whether they currently work in the NHS or not.”

And Peter Lachecki, chairman of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “As well as highlighting the truly fantastic work of our healthcare teams who are treating and caring for patients every day, this is also an opportunity to showcase the work going on to keep people healthy and make our communities stronger and more active.

“There are a wide range of categories to consider so I would urge people to take a look at the website and get nominating now.”

Tony Fox, chairman of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “These awards are about celebrating excellence in health and the individuals and teams who provide outstanding care and support in local communities, day and night.

“There would never be enough categories to recognise every one of these people with a physical award, but it’s a great way of highlighting the fantastic
