Charities nominate business champions

CHARITIES who help people in wheelchairs play football and support sick children have nominated their business champions in the county.

Schemes across the county, including Goals Beyond Grass and the Pied Piper Appeal, put forward the local businesses which support them in a variety of ways, from donating materials, sharing skills to organising fundraising attempts.

The finalists have now been announced in the 2018 Local Business Charity Awards (Gloucestershire), sponsored by insurance broker Jelf and insurer Ageas.

There were three awards to enter, the Jelf Award, for charities with an income of over £200,000 a year, the Ageas Award for charities with an income of under £200,000 a year and the Individual Award.

To enter, charities had to nominate a Gloucestershire business or individual, who had done an outstanding job supporting them. If their nominated business wins, the charity will receive a donation of £1,000. The winner of the Individual award will receive a weekend break to the value of £300.

In alphabetical order, the names of the finalists and the charities who nominated them are:

The Jelf Award: The Coventry Building Society nominated by Longfield; Randall & Payne nominated by the Pied Piper Appeal; Robert Hitchins Ltd nominated by the Gloucestershire Community Foundation; Wentworth Court nominated by the Gloucestershire Everyman Theatre Company Ltd

The Ageas Award: Cyber Security Associates nominated by Gloucestershire Bundles; Dee & Griffin Solicitors nominated by Longlevens RFC; Roberts Express Delivery Transport and Logistics nominated by Goals Beyond Grass; Severn Vale Housing Society nominated by Brockworth Link

The Individual Award: Cathryn Hage from Pentacom PR and Marketing nominated by the Pied Piper Appeal; Elaine Hodgin from Clarkson Evans nominated by the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity; Emily Ashman from Specsavers Cheltenham nominated by Carers Gloucestershire; Klara Sudbury from Cheltenham Borough Council, nominated by the Hollie Gazzard Trust

The finals will be held at the National Star College, Ullenwood, on Thursday, September 6, at 7pm. Although nominations are now closed, charities and businesses may continue to list themselves on the free ‘Support A Local Charity’ page, which aims to match up businesses and charities in Gloucestershire in a skills and need swap.
