Rain-soaked weekend fails to ease problems for struggling duo

-

» RAIN meant results were possible in only a handful of matches, including two matches involving the bottom two in Premier One.

Frocester, champions in 2014 and 2015, stay rooted to the foot of the table after being beaten in a rainaffected clash at Bridgwater.

And Goatacre remain second last after suffering a low-scoring two-wicket home defeat against Bedminster who had a fine all-round display from Gloucestershire Academy member Jack Gibbs.

The village side were skittled for 96 after winning the toss, Gibbs finishing with five for 39 and holding the catch off Adrian Neill which accounted for the crucial wicket of Hampshire and England spinner Liam Dawson.

Bedminster were in serious wobble mode at 86 for eight before Gibbs weighed in with a vital unbeaten 17 which included two maximums and a four to deny Dawson (5-21).

It was the same story in Premier Two Glos/wilts, including the top-ofthe-table clash between Cheltenham and Thornbury.

Thornbury rallied from 19 for three to total 214 for seven thanks to patient work from Danny Slade (63 from 109) and Vishal Mamgai (55 not from 77) while Cheltenham were 35 for one when the players left the field for the last time.

Gloucestershire under-17 spinner Ben Parker finished with five for 21 in a rain-hit victory for Winterbourne over Bristol II which also included an unbeaten 103 from Richard Trotman.

There were two finishes in the Gloucestershire division, including a win that lifted Cirencester from eighth to fifth.

Adam Clatworthy top scored on 43 in their 167 all out, Alex Oliver taking five for 25 for Tewkesbury who were undone by Tom Fullalove (6-26 from seven) in a 60-run setback on DLS.

Opener Ollie Forbes hit 77 for Bourton Vale who were six-wicket home victors against Hatherley & Reddings.
