Making a mark School sees rise in numbers scooping top grades
DETERMINATION and professionalism were the two key factors identified by Bournside School’s headteacher on A-level results day.
Gareth Burton said: “I am absolutely thrilled our Year 13 students have performed so well across such a wide range of subjects.
“It enables them to make the next step in their lives with almost all now able to accept the offer they have from their respective university, apprenticeship provider or employer.”
He added: “I am particularly pleased with the increase in each of our key performance measures, with close to half of all grades awarded now being an A*, A or B and almost one in every five grades being an A* or A.
“The results reflect the individual determination and commitment of our students, alongside the professionalism and expertise of our teaching and non-teaching staff and the constant support from students’ parents/carers and wider families.”
He said there had also been outstanding performances from the pupils who sat an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
Some 70 per cent of those grades were an A* or an A.
Identical twins at the school in Cheltenham got almost identical results.
Eighteen-year-old Chloe got A* in psychology, A in geography and B in biology while sister Kara had an A* in psychology, a B in biology and an A in Chemistry.
The girls, from Benhall, Cheltenham, said they were close and were happy that they both got very good grades. robin.jenkins@reachplc.com
