Cider factory set to push out the barrel for 30th anniversary party

GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S biggest cider factory is to get a new shop – and members of the public are invited to the launch night.

The Dunkertons Organic Cidery Celebration, run by the family of Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton, is being held on August 31 to mark the brand’s 30th anniversary of Soil Association organic certification and its latest business venture in Charlton Kings .

Founded by Mr Dunkerton’s father Ivor and his wife Susie in 1980, the company is proud to have pioneered the production of organic cider and perry in the UK.

Two years ago it was announced it would be moving to Dowdeswell Park near Cheltenham from Herefordshire, which will allow tours and tastings as part of the expansion.

Coming first is the chance for locals to secure a ticket to the launch night, where nine different types of cider and perry are going to be showcased plus organic food from Ronnie Bonetti, head chef at the Lucky Onion hotel group.

The evening will also feature performances from local musicians including Thrill Collins, DJ Dickie Butcher and singer Tilly Leighton.

Dunkertons is the only brand in the UK with an entirely organic range of hand-blended ciders and perry, with each one 100 per cent traceable back to the orchard of origin.

Managing director Jeremy Benson said: “We are really excited to have the opportunity to invite fans of our cider to join us as we launch our shop.

“Since we moved across the border from Herefordshire to Gloucestershire, we’ve been working in partnership with Dowdeswell Contractors to create not only a visually stunning shop, but a premium shopping experience where people can come and sample the ciders, buy from the barrel, and book tours.

“This is a great opportunity for others to be a part of our history and see the future vision as the business grows from strength to strength and – of course – enjoy our delicious, 100 per cent organic ciders.”

Also available to purchase at the new Dunkertons shop will be freshly baked organic breads from the Artisan Boulangerie Company, cheeses from various organic suppliers and The Kitchen Garden products.

Ticket numbers are limited for the exclusive event via online registration at dunkertonscider.co.uk/dunkertonsorganic-cidery-celebration. melissa.jones@reachplc.com
