No brainer for Jones: Johan

-

» JOHAN Ackermann thinks it is a “no brainer” for England to continue picking Danny Cipriani.

The new Gloucester fly-half’s international career was thrown into doubt after he was fined £2,000 for common assault and resisting arrest during a pre-season tour to Jersey.

England head coach Eddie Jones warned Cipriani about his behaviour when he recalled him for the tour to South Africa after a string of off-field incidents in the past.

“There’s no doubt in my mind I would select him if he plays the rugby we all know he can play,” said Ackermann.

“For me personally, the incident was as such that for me if I was the (England) coach it wouldn’t bother me.

“If he’s the in-form 10 I’d select him.”

Ackermann has called for consistency ahead of Cipriani’s RFU hearing.

“I hope they do what they would have done with any other player - and it is not one player getting tagged.

“If you do these things you have to do it right through the board.

“What if it was an academy boy? Would he still get this? He is still a rugby player. For me there is no division between a young player and a senior player, everybody has to fall under the same values and discipline.

“Hopefully we can sit around the table and the truth comes out.”

Cipriani is set to play against the Dragons at Kingsholm on Thursday.

“We’ll probably want to have everyone plus the guys who didn’t play with a decent amount of time under their belt again,” said Ackermann.
