Thompson double seals first point

» MASON Thompson scored a brace as Fairford Town secured their first Premier Division point of the campaign in an entertaini­ng 3-3 draw with a Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

The hosts made a dream start to the game as they opened the scoring through captain Lee Smith with six minutes on the clock.

It was 2-0 inside the 20 minute mark as former Bassett man Mason Thomson opened his Fairford account to double the advantage.

Bassett were soon level with Matt Bennett grabbing a goal back on before striker Brad Pagliaroli netted on 33 minutes, then on the stroke of half-time with Rob Lincoln putting the Wiltshire side in front.

The second half continued where the first half had finished with another goal soon after the restart, as Thompson applied the finish to make it 3-3.

Jack Horrell’s late goal gave Brimscombe & Thrupp a 1-0 siccess over Bishop’s Cleeve at Kayte Lane, a second defeat in four days for Cleeve, who lost 3-1 at Wantage on Saturday.

Wantage started brighteran­d Jack Dunmah flicked the ball into the net to put the hosts ahead.

Harvey Scholes doubled the lead when his first time dipping shot found the top corner.

Cleeve got themselves back into the match just before half time when Jack Watts beat two defenders and rifled his shot into the top corner.

But the hosts regained their two goal advantage with 15 mins left when Connor Mattimore fired in before Lewis Clayton, who had been superb all match, was shown a red card after attempting to beat a Wantage attacker to the ball with a high foot.

In Division One West, Cheltenham Saracens beat Pewsey Vale 6-0 with goals from Josh Goodhall, Kai Mahon, Elliott Roberts (two), Josh Watts and Jordan Bryan, while Cirenceste­r were 4-0 victors over North Leigh, thanks to Connor Hibbs (two), Dan Wheeler and Danny Gudger.

Bourton Rovers won 3-1 at Newent In Division Two West.

Harry Larner opened the scoring and after Newent levelled new signing Steve Nurse scored twice.

Moreton Rangers drew 1-1 with Brimscombe & Thrupp.
