Skills coach Teague leaves Gloucester

-

» SKILLS coach Rory Teague has left Gloucester Rugby.

A statement on their website said: “With the appointment of George Skivington as head coach, it has been agreed with Rory that he will seek opportunities elsewhere.”

Teague said: “I would personally like to thank Gloucester Rugby for affording me the opportunity to coach at the club that I grew up supporting and have always loved.

“I would like to wish Gloucester Rugby and George Skivington the best of luck for the completion of the current season and beyond.

“I am confident with the squad Gloucester have, and the passionate supporters behind them, that success over the next few seasons will return to this great club.”

Chief Operating Officer Alex Brown said: “Rory is a great coach. We would like to recognise the good work he’s done here, and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Teague, second cousin of Gloucester, England and Lions legend Mike Teague, started his playing career at Kingsholm, and had spells with Lydney and Cinderford.

He started his coaching career at Harrow School, and has gone on to work with Saracens and Wasps, England U20s and the senior squad where he was recruited by Eddie Jones, followed by a spell as head coach at Bordeaux-begles.

Teague re-joined Gloucester as skills coach ahead of the 2019/20 season and was thought to be a candidate for the head coach role after Johan Ackermann’s departure but missed out to Skivington.

Skivington said: “I am working with Alex Brown on the coaching structure to get a feel of it and make some decisions and see what we think is best going forwards so that’s something in motion.

“There are a lot of discussions around that and that will all take shape in the next few weeks or months.”
