Coronavirus has to come before Brexit
✒ I’VE just seen the latest report on the double impact of Brexit and Coronavirus, and feel like I’ve spotted an iceberg on the horizon that everyone else is ignoring, exactly as happened on the Titanic.
The report shows that any change to our trade relationship with Europe during the Covid-19 recession will further undermine the UK economy, and that means the loss of LOCAL businesses and LOCAL jobs.
I am seriously concerned that Laurence Robertson (our local MP) is outrageously putting his political ideology above his constituents’ livelihoods.
With the devastating impact of the coronavirus on the UK economy, it would be foolish and selfish for our unelected PM (Cummings or Johnson?) to blindly add further pain and misery onto the population of the UK.
After all, a disputed and illegal 48-52 referendum vote clearly indicates that the nation does not want a ‘no deal’ or ‘hard Brexit’ in the manner that the ideological fanatics are trying to foist on the nation at any cost.
That would be letting down all those that genuinely gave their opinion in the advisory referendum vote.
Laurence Robertson and his parliamentary colleagues have a duty to protect our jobs, our services and our local businesses with sensible negotiations.
However, our communities are already being stretched to breaking point by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and we desperately need time to deal with that before we can turn our focus to our changing relationship with the EU. A Neeves Bishop’s Cleeve
