» On ya bike and ready to perform once again

STILT performer Thomas Trilby is back in the saddle getting some much-needed practice riding his specially adapted bike around Pittville Park, Cheltenham.

The curtains were lifted on outdoor performances from Saturday, July 11, following an announcement from Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden.

With fewer than ten stilt bicycle riders in the country, Thomas Trilby is normally in high demand.

But he has lost his livelihood with all the usual festivals, including Glastonbury, being cancelled as well as bookings in town centres and shopping centres, another regular staple.

With the lifting of restrictions he hopes that work will return.

He said: “Street theatre brings some much-needed smiles.

“I’m really looking forward to doing something I love that brings such joy.”

Technically, riding a comfortable two metres above ground level allows for adequate social distancing but the bigger issue may be the level of confidence in the economy that will see the return of bookings.
