Centre gets ready to support health and wellbeing again

LIVING through the history of a pandemic has disrupted all of our lives and curtailed activities that form part of our daily routines. For many that is a visit to the leisure centre for a fitness class or workout in the gym.

It’s only when we haven’t been able to enjoy these rituals that we’ve realised how important they are to our lives, to our mental health and our sense of wellbeing.

Many people have found ways of keeping themselves fit and healthy during lockdown from walking, running and cycling to virtual gym sessions.

Last week the government announced the go ahead for leisure centres to open later this month in the latest easing of the Covid-19 restrictions.

The Cheltenham Trust is continuing its remobilisation and Leisure at Cheltenham will partially reopen to members on Mondayjuly 27.

The Trust has been working towards the announcement for several weeks to prepare the leisure centre for reopening with all the social distancing and safety measures in place so members can exercise confident that they are safe.

Initially the centre will reopen with members aged 16 and over, able to book hour long sessions for the gym and a range of fitness classes, yoga and pilates through the centre’s website and app, up to seven days in advance.

The pool will not open until mid-august and the centre will be closed on Sundays, for the time being, for deep cleaning.

The gym equipment will be cleaned after each session and members will be asked to clean the station after they have used it.

The gym has been extended into part of the sports hall to enable a capacity of up to 70 people for each session.

The centre will be running a range of fitness classes, with up to 20 people at a class led by an instructor.

There will also be virtual classes for a maximum of five people, in the studios with a screen playing the session.

The Cheltenham Trust is delighted to be welcoming you back to Leisure at Cheltenham and to be supporting the health and wellbeing of the community.
