ADRIVE-IN concert tour due to visit Cheltenham Racecourse this summer has been cancelled.

The Utilita Live at the Drive In series was scheduled to stop at 12 sites across the UK.

Acts including Tony Hadley, Bjorn Again, Skindred, Dizzee Rascal and Gary Numan were set to perform throughout July and August and September, starting from July 29.

But now promoters Live Nation have pulled the plug on the event over fears of more localised lockdowns like that which has been imposed in Leicester.

In a statement, they said: “The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer.

“We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners, and of course you, the fans.

“However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it has become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence.

“We thank everyone for their support and eagerly await a time when we can watch live music together again.

“Full refunds will be issued directly to all ticket holders within the next seven days.”

The drive-in shows were organised with a capacity of around 300 cars at each event, with private viewing zones in each parking space where people could get out and dance.

There is no evidence that Gloucestershire is at risk of a local lockdown with the rate of infection only a fraction of that seen in Leicester.

All acts lined up included: Tony Hadley, Bjorn Again, Brainiac Live, Russell Watson, Sheku and Isata Kannehmason, Sigala, The Streets, Skindred, Beverley Knight, Cream Classical Ibiza, Lightning Seeds, The Snuts, Reggae Roast VS Gentleman’s Dub Club Sound System, Dizzee Rascal, Ash, The Brand New Heavies, The Zutons and Gary Numan.

Ticket holders have been told they will receive refunds within seven days. Live Nation has been contacted for comment.
