Too early to be relaxed about the coronavirus

✒ SURELY the main thing to remember about the coronavirus is that it does not care about us.

It does not mind that it has already put us through a great trauma and we just want to get back to our normal lives.

No, it will just keep on going and put us all through it again.

This does appear to be the case sadly according to WHO warnings.

After all, the WHO says there are nearly 12 million cases worldwide and the pandemic is getting worse in many parts of the world.

So what does this mean for us if we relax too much, especially if we start travelling and interacting with a lot more people?

It means that the virus will be back through our doors in no time.

This is hugely dangerous because less than 10 per cent of the UK population have in fact been exposed to the virus the first time around, leaving the vast majority of the population still vulnerable to infection.

Look at it this way - if you decide to go abroad on a much delayed holiday break you are; travelling to the airport, spending time in the airport, sitting on an airplane, walking through an airport the other end, joining a coach or other local transport, walking through the lobby of an overseas hotel, then spending two or more weeks interacting with possibly hundreds or thousands of people you don’t know and who are definitely outside your personal “bubble”.

All this is a problem even if you wear a mask on holiday.

Would you wear it all the time? Then after your break, you go through the same routine again coming home via transport, airports etc. I don’t know why people have not really got the message.

This is hugely dangerous and risks the virus re-entering the UK.

The Chief Medical Officer has already warned that the virus will around at least until spring 2021.

So surely we have to hunker down at least until then and think about holidays abroad and even business travel sometime next year, assuming the overall pandemic picture has died down around the world and it is safe to move at all. Elizabeth Smith Woodmancote
