AFEW months ago when the sun was shining down gloriously what we wouldn’t have given to be relaxing at the Lido.

But now it seems like our summer dreams will finally all come true as the Cheltenham family attraction, which boasts Grade II listed buildings, has begun the process of reopening to to the public.

Sandford Parks Lido did open on Monday - but that was exclusively for season-ticket holders.

For the rest of the public, swimming will begin from this Monday as part of a phased reopening plan.

Posting on their Facebook page earlier this month, Sandford Park Lido said: “2020 SEASON OPENING. We are pleased to announce that we will be opening our gates to season ticket holders on Monday July 20! The first week of operation will be exclusively for existing season ticket holders and public swims will begin from Monday July 27.”

The reopening is a phased one, with lane swimming available only.

In order to comply with Government and industry guidelines the shortened 2020 season will operate in a very different way to previous years.

The management have said that it has also decided not to sell any season tickets for this season.

Any existing season ticket holders will be able to collect their cards from reception on their first visit. Below is an outline of the planned phased re-open. Further details will be published later this week. Week 1 - Season-ticket holders week. From Monday July 20 to Sunday July 26.

The first week of opening will be for current season ticket holders only. Numbers per wave will be limited to 50 swimmers in the 1st week.

Week 2 - Open to all with limited numbers. From Monday July 27 to Sunday August 2. The second week of opening, it will operate in much the same way as the first week. Both season-ticket holders and the general public will be able to book their one-hour waves from tomorrow - Friday July 24 - by visiting the website and following the links. Numbers per wave will continue to be restricted. Week 3 - Open to all with limited numbers. From Monday August 3 to Sunday August 9. The third week will continue to be run on restricted times and numbers. Any changes to this will, be done as a result of Government or industry guidelines.

In a statement, the Lido’s management added: “We would also like to stress that the continued financial viability of staying open this season will be assessed regularly, and decisions may be made at short notice in order to protect the long-term viability of the Lido.”
