Big passion for town and its people

- Councillor Victoria Atherstone

IHAVE a huge passion for Cheltenham and the welfare of its people. In May 2018 I was elected to Cheltenham Borough Council to represent St Peters, where I live.

I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting residents and have recently fundraised for local organisations that are very close to my heart, including Cheltenham YMCA and Cheltenham Borough Council’s campaign No Child Left Behind, which supports children from our vulnerable neighbourhoods.

On September 1, I was appointed as cabinet member for economy and development and am committed to creating and protecting opportunities for Cheltenham’s residents, businesses, and visitors. Helping to make a difference in Cheltenham is an honour.

I have an ability to look at things strategically, so am often able to see the bigger picture and can find solutions to sometimes challenging situations.

My goal is to achieve Cheltenham’s vision for its future; economically, socially, culturally, and environmentally.

I currently work in Cheltenham town centre for a technology agency that predominantly supports the growth of further and higher education institutions. I help them to gain insights to improve organisational performance, critically important now more than ever as they battle the Covid crisis.

My career began as a professional ballerina touring and performing Swan Lake, which is why I have a deep passion for the creative arts.

I also founded an electric scooter start-up company in my late 20s to help support the UK’S low-carbon transportation agenda because I am passionate about protecting our planet.

I support initiatives relating to lowcarbon transportation, the circular economy and sustainable living.

Most recently I have specialised as a business strategist and marketing consultant and have helped numerous start-ups and medium-sized businesses with their growth ambitions. Skills that will help me support Cheltenham’s Covid-19 recovery plans and long-term commercial goals.

Born in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, I attended Churchdown Village Junior School and began my dancing career at Corraine Collins School of Dance, performing in two pantos at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.
