APARAMEDIC from Cheltenham who spent six weeks away from her family at the start of the lockdown has written a series of children’s books dedicated to her daughter.

Rosa and Roo on a Rainbow Hunt is the first in the series and was born from writing a poem.

Emma Terranova-davis, 30, was working a great deal of shifts as a frontline paramedic when the pandemic hit, yet when she had some free time she started writing to her daughter.

What was the start of a poem became a book for children, which then became a series of seven books.

Emma said: “It was hard for my daughter, who turned five during the lockdown. I decided on writing a poem initially for her about what you can and can’t do during that time.

“The book is about finding gratitude on a rainy day and being grateful for what you have got.

“When I gave Rosa the book she loved it as it is about her and adventures that she got up to.

“Despite it being a tough time, her dad was furloughed and he was brilliant with her, bringing some light to a dark time.

“I guess the message within the book is to make the best of a rainy day. The rainbow theme in the story is inspired by all the rainbows we saw everywhere during the lockdown.

“For the children it has been the start of resilience learning. If it were to happen again then Rosa will be able to look at the book and do all the things that are in there again.”

Money made from the sale of the book goes to a non-profit organisation called Campaign For My Brain set up by Emma to increase awareness of neurological conditions.

Emma’s mother was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and since then Emma has worked hard to promote understanding of the illness.

The book has been self-published by Emma, and her husband Chris illustrated the series.
