Dumbleton complete T20 double triumph

-

DUMBLETON Dynamite eased to a nine-wicket victory over Thornbury Thunder in the final of the Marsh Commercial Under-16 T20 at Rockhampton to complete a memorable season for the village club.

This success came just six days after Dumbleton overcame holders Bedminster Bashers in the final of the Under-19 T20 at the same venue.

The Under-16 side featured three players – Tommy Boorman, Myles Holland and Ryan Kilmister - who last month helped Dumbleton’s first XI reach the quarter-finals of the Village Club where a fantastic run came to an end at the hands of eventual winners Colwall.

Dumbleton took control from the start, Kilmister capturing a wicket with the first ball of the innings.

The left-arm spinner went on to finish with 3-9 from his four overs but seamer Will Gilderson went one better with an electrifying burst of 4-11, also from four, as Thornbury were soon on the ropes at 29-7 and then 43-9.

Ani Sanat stepped up with a battling innings of 36 from 40 deliveries (six fours) to haul his side to a total of 77, skipper Holland bagging 1-6 from four while there was also a wicket for Ollie Cox.

Thornbury desperately needed an early breakthrough with the ball and got it, through Alex Riggs, before Holland (43) and Boorman (31) put together an unbroken stand of 80 to wrap up the victory in the 15th over.

Sanat secured the batting award for his excellent effort while the bowling honours went to Gilderson and the fielding award was secured by Dumbleton’s Tobyjones whose accurate throw ensured a run out.
