Kennedy back at Cleeve after spell with Longlevens

-

ELLIOT Kennedy has rejoined Bishop’s Cleeve after a spell at Longlevens.

The forward was handed his senior debut by Paul Collicutt at the age of 16.

The former Evesham United man now returns to Kayte Lane for a fourth time to link up with Collicutt during his second spell as boss.

“I think only Slacky (Kevin Slack) can beat me for the amount of returns to the club,” Kennedy said.

“The ambition of the club is what made me go back with the 3G pitch coming next year, I feel the club is going in the right direction.

“There are also a lot of lads who I have played with before and good relationships with like Pritch (Mark Pritchett), Ash (Caldwell), Slacky, Sys (Matt Sysum) and Archie (Haskayne).

“Playing with people you know and know how you play makes it easier as you are on the same page.”

Kennedy is aiming to finish in the top two goalscorers in the league this season.

“In my first year in the Hellenic League I scored 24, but I was injured for a lot of that season I personally think I could of reached 30 plus,” he said.

“That’s my aim for this season and I think I have a better chance of achieving that with Cleeve and the players that Colly has got in.

“He always tries to get the best out of you and will be honest and tell you if you have not been good enough.”

Meanwhile, defender Rich Thwaite has left Cleeve to join Hellenic League Division One West club Stonehouse Town.

On Saturday, Cleeve lost 2-0 to Binfield at Kayte Lane, and their schedued game on Tuesday against Tufley Rovers

was called off due to Covid-19.

Fairford Town, who have re-signed Jack Beardsell from Tuffley Rovers, left it late to beat Windsor 3-2.

John Watson scored the injury-time winner after Ross Langworthy put the Reds in front and Christian Turnerwilliams levelled after Windsor went 2-1 up.

On Tuesday, Ross Langworthy put the Reds ahead at Reading City, but they went down 2-1.

In Division One West, Gerry Oldham and Mark Lockwood have returned to Cheltenham Saracens to improve the coaching set up at the club.

Betteridge said “It’s great to have such experienced coaching staff on board, it can only help the lads grow and improve as players.”

Saracens were pegged back to 2-2 by Clanfield 85, who scored in the 88th and 94th minutes to cancel out goals for Josh Goodhall and Jordan Bryan.

Like Cleeve, their game on Tuesday, against Hereford Lads Club, was called off due to Covid-19 cases at the Hereford side.

On Saturday, Bourton Rovers stunned the Lads Club to win 3-2 with goals from Jake Oakey, Jake Robotham and Jack Morton.

On Tuesday, Cirencester Development led through Max Lloyd but lost 2-1 to Clanfield 85, while Moreton Rangers lost 5-1 at Tytherington.
