The wheel thing when it comes to breaking records page 8
KEVIN Nicks had already managed to get his shed to an astonishing 105mph on a beach in Wales.
Now he’s managed to get it to go even faster: 106.123mph at Elvington Airfield in York.
And on the same day the 55-year-old mechanic and gardener got another motorised piece of garden equipment to go faster than no one had thought possible.
His Barrow of Speed Wheelbarrow achieving a blistering 45.089mph.
With his shed, Mr Nicks spent thousands of pounds and a whole year transforming his 1999 VW Passat into roadworthy shed, which now has a 450 brake horsepower engine.
Mr Nicks built the wooden shed on top of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat he didn’t have the heart to scrap.
After purchasing the car to use for repairs on his other Passat, he had the eureka moment of transforming the vehicle into a shed.
He claims it is the world’s first road legal motorised shed.
“Some people do ask me why I want to drive around in a shed. And I say because I don’t want to drive around in a boring car like everyone else.”
After last year’s Pendine race, where Mr Nicks set the record at 80mph, he spent a lot of time, effort and money making the shed even faster with a new Audi RS4 engine.
The two-tonne vehicle comes complete with remote central locking, leather seats and air con
Previously, Cotswolds creative Mr Nicks drove the shed on a mammoth journey from Land’s End to John O’groats
He added: “A lot of people lead humdrum lives, just going to work and coming home, look what I’ve been doing this weekend. If you have enough dedication, you can do anything.

“I’m working on another project, a smaller shed built for racing with a motorcycle engine but it’s not ready.
“I’m not sure of the exact cost, because I’m not driven by money. I’ve sacrificed so much for it.
“For example over the winter I borrowed a friend’s workshop, but I could only use it on evenings and weekends. I spent every hour I could working on the shed.
“On one Sunday I spent 27 hours straight working on it, I was still there when they came in to work on the Monday.
