Developer launches bid to build 35 homes in town

-

» A DEVELOPER’S bid to build 35 homes in Winchcombe has been launched.

The new estate is proposed to be built on green fields off Kyderminster Road, near Winchcombe Medical Centre.

Also proposed by housebuilder Tata Steel Ltd in the outline application is new public open space and associated landscaping and engineering works.

The proposal was validated by Tewkesbury Borough Council’s planning team last week.

The homes will be a mix of one to four bedroom homes, according to the application.

According a planning document, a number of residents raised concerns about the impact to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and highways and parking.

They said the development could have a “detrimental imact upon the setting” of the AONB, and current access routes to Winchcombe were “inadequate”.

The developer responded saying the proposal is designed to “respect the local contact and character” of the AONB, adding that its assessment of local traffic shows it will have “little or no impact” to the surrounding highway network.

A design and access statement submitted by the developer said: “The site represents an opportunity to bring forward new family housing on a small self contained site that is very well related to the existing edge of Winchcombe.

“The site can be designed to round off the settlement edge, sitting between existing development on Kyderminster Road and the new cemetery and potential allotments planned by the Town Council.”
