TV star Fogle’s message to town over staying safe
TV presenter Ben Fogle has sent a message to Cheltenham residents urging them to “keep each other safe” as coronavirus cases rise in the town.
The broadcaster and author, who has appeared Cheltenham Literature Festival several times, spoke from wilderness to tell the locals to continue following the Government’s rules.
At is stands Cheltenham, and Gloucestershire, is currently based in Tier 1, meaning restrictions such as the rule of six, hospitality venues are restricted to table service only and must close at 10pm, and face coverings must be worn by customers and staff in shops with social distancing.
Speaking in a video message, Mr Fogle said: “Hi Cheltenham, it’s Ben Fogle here. Now let’s help reduce the spread of this virus and keep each other safe by downloading the NHS app, washing our hands, sticking to the rules of six and wearing our face coverings in public and of course giving each other space. Remember, we are all in this together. We, not me. Take care.”
Mr Fogle rose to fame in the BBC show Castaway 2000 (In 2000), and has since presented numerous other television shows and written nine best-selling books.
Cheltenham Borough Council leader Steve Jordan said: ‘’Creative content across our social media platforms is important, now more than ever, for resident, local business and partner engagement.
“It is critical that we get these important and attention grabbing COVID-19 messages out, as infection rates increase locally.
“We must do all we can to prevent further restrictions as seen in other parts of the country.’’
