AFAMILY who lost everything in a huge fire near Tewkesbury earlier this year are looking to rebuild.

Firefighters spent seven hours tackling the flames at The Poultry House in Twyning in February 2020 which destroyed a caravan used as a home, stables and a barn.

The fire caused extensive damage but a fund-raising campaign and support from the local community helped the family start to rebuild their lives.

And now, a planning application has been submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council seeking to reinstate the stables and barn and a static caravan/ mobile home as before.

It says the proposal is for the: “Replacement of static home and barn incorporating accommodation destroyed in fire.”

At the time, Skye Houldsworth said she was devastated for her mum and her husband, Steve and Jacqui Falconer, who lost everything in the fire.

People described “sheets of flame and smoke” as the fire reached its peak on the night of Thursday, February 6 at the site near the junction of the M5 and M50.

Fire crews from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Hereford and

Worcester Fire and Rescue Service arrived at around 5.30pm and tackled the blaze until 12.30am on Friday.

Nobody was hurt, but the caravan which was used as a home, stables and a barn were completely destroyed.

And the clean-up operation which began the day after the fire was complicated days later when Storm Ciara blew in.

Luckily, family friends the Coopers helped pull down remaining debris that could have caused serious problems in the strong winds.

Speaking at the time, Skye said: “We think the fire came from a tumble dryer in mum and Steve’s caravan. He was in there at the time. I was in a nearby field and my mum was coming back from Tewkesbury.

“We tried to tackle it with a fire extinguisher but it was going through the site. There was no stopping it.

“The flames had broken into the yard. The smoke was black.

“It was the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen.”

Skye said that as they led the last of the horses to safety, gas bottles started to explode.

Six appliances were sent to the scene, four from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and two from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

Six jets and two hose reels were used by crews as they fought the flames.
