Residents get ready for Christmas period with a difference

-

AS Christmas trees start to go up across the county, residents at Wentworth Court nursing home are facing the possibility of their first Christmas apart from loved ones.

The 55 vulnerable residents, who live with moderate to severe dementia, are being kept safe in a support bubble with the care team.

Plans are underway to provide extraspecial Christmas activities this year including a Christmas party, Christingle carol service and exercise sessions with Santa and his elves.

Residents are being encouraged to become involved in creating festive decorations, baking mince pies and adorning the home to instil the Christmas spirit.

Activities coordinator Suzanne Meadows said, “Every year we endeavour to make Christmas extra special and joyous at Wentworth Court, and this year it is particularly important with the home experiencing lockdown due to Covid-19.

“We have planned a full Christmas programme for the residents to encourage a family feeling, involving everyone who lives and works at Wentworth Court, culminating in a Christmas talent show.

“Despite a challenging year for everyone, we are looking forward to a happy and joyful Christmas.”

Wentworth Court has been Covidfree since April with the team using digital technology, such as Skype video-calling and a closed Facebook group to enable families to see daily snapshots of their relatives.

The home opened in May 2015 and exclusively provides dementia nursing care.

The home offers both long-term residential and nursing care for those who need daily assistance as well as shorterterm respite care.

Wentworth Court recognised as ‘Outstanding’ in the responsiveness category and ‘Good’ in all other areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
