Ng incident resolved, says Crewe boss Artell

-

CREWE Alexandra boss David Artell says that the incident after Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup second round defeat at Cheltenham Town has been resolved after a chat with his captain Perry Ng.

Ng was accused of spitting water at Robins coach Wade Elliott as the teams made their way off the pitch, with Cheltenham manager Michael Duff making his feelings clear during his post-match interview.

Duff described the incident as a “disgrace” and said the same as the two managers chatted over a drink in the aftermath, but Artell, right, has since played it down.

“I’ve seen the incident again and I don’t think either party will be happy with their actions at the end of the game,” Artell told Crewe’s official website.

“Perry has spat water on the floor after taking a drink and their member of staff has taken exception to that.

“He had been hurling abuse at him as he made his way of the pitch before it died down pretty quickly.

“I don’t think either of them would be impressed by their actions and I have spoken to Perry and dealt with it internally.

“It was a bit of a storm in a tea cup and they both walked away from it pretty quickly.

“We went for a drink with their staff afterwards and there was no issue from either club.

“We get on well with Michael and his staff. It is all done and dusted from our point of view and it was over as quickly as it started.”

Artell told Duff he would look into an incident when the managers shared a drink after the match.

“Dave is a good bloke and he’ll be disappointed with his captain (Perry Ng), who spat water at one of my coaching staff so as captain of a football club, that’s a disgrace,” said Duff.

“Basically he’s had a drink of water and spat it all over Wade Elliott, all down his front. It’s a disgrace, if I am brutally honest

“I am sure Dave will say something about that because that doesn’t reflect him, I know that.

“I told him (Artell) exactly what I said to the press and I didn’t want to be one of those who sit and have a drink and it’s all nice so told him what I’d said, outing his captain and saying it was a disgrace what he did.

“He said he’d look into it and deal with it accordingly.

“It’s pretty clear from the pictures what happened.

“That’s not up to me now. I let him know my stance and my thoughts on it.

“I don’t think the referee saw it because there was quite a lot he didn’t see during the game.

“I don’t know how it works now, or anything like that.

“You get things like Rohan Ince being suspended for five games last year for a nothing incident.

“We are currently in a pandemic and their captain has spat water at one of my coaching staff, so my stance on it hasn’t changed and it was a silly thing to do, to put it politely.”
