Watch your speed – camera sites for this month are revealed

-

» THE watchful eyes of mobile speed cameras will be trained on seven priority sites in December - so don’t add to the costs of Christmas with a speeding fine.

The locations are across the county, including areas around Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds.

If you live in other areas, don’t think you have a licence to speed though as mobile cameras will also be visiting other locations.

But the seven priority sites below can expect at least one visit a week this month.

Gloucestershire police have been busy seizing cars for not having the necessary documents and have also launched the annual anti drink drive campaign.

So every time you head out on the roads, make sure you are taxed, insured - and are not over the limit for drink or alcohol.

December’s priority sites are: Hyde Lane, Swindon Village; Estcourt Road, Gloucester; A46 Bath Road, Stroud; Cheltenham Road, Bisley; A48 Severn Bore, Minsterworth; A48 Westbury on Severn; A44 Moreton in Marsh.

The mobile speed vans are operated by Gloucestershire police, and support the Police and Crime Commissioners’ Plan priority ‘safe and social driving’.

The mobile speed detection vans operate at over 80 sites across the county and prioritise site activity by examining speed and accident data including intelligence received from communities.

In an effort to reduce speeding in areas across the county, the priority sites will be advertised each month.

Visits to the other sites will continue but emphasis will be placed on the advertised locations.

The Mobile Camera Enforcement Unit said the presence of a speed camera will encourage drivers to change their behaviour and drive at a lower, safer speed.

It adds: “This will help to improve the quality of life for people living in these areas and improve the safety of the roads for all those who use them.”

And it’s not just the mobile ones you have to be aware of as there are also a number of community priority sites.

Community priority sites (location and speed limits): Prestbury Road, Cheltenham (30mph); Tommy Taylors Lane, Cheltenham (30); Church Road, Leckhampton (30); The Reddings, Cheltenham (30); Warden Hill Road, Cheltenham (30); Leckhampton Road, Cheltenham (30); Stoke Road, Tredington (30); Gretton Road, Prescott (60); Down Hatherley Lane, Down Hatherley (30); Boddington Lane, Staverton (30); B4014 Long Newnton (30); A433 London Road, Tetbury (40); B4014 Hampton Street, Tetbury (30); A417 London Road, Cirencester (30); A361 Station Road, Lechlade (30); B4035 Station Road, Chipping Campden (30); A429 Moreton in Marsh (30); A44 Bourton on The Hill (30); A417 St John’s Street, Lechlade (30)
