Parrott makes move to link up with Collicutt

-

JAKE Parrott has left Brimscombe & Thrupp to join Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Bishop’s Cleeve.

The midfielder was the subject of a seven-day approach from the Mitres, who are managed by Paul Collicutt.

Parrott was a trainee at Cheltenham Town and attended Hartpury College, enjoying a successful spell at Shortwood United.

He is now hoping to be part of a title challenge with Cleeve, who are fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Flackwell Heath.

“I decided to join Cleeve as I believe they will be up at the top end of the table,” Parrott said.

“There was a bit of a financial benefit, too, which will help after losing money in my job through Covid-19, and the persuasion of a lot of the Cleeve players also helped.

“Colly also clearly played a big role in persuading me to join. I was very impressed with the research and calls he had made about me before we spoke, and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Parrott knows several of the squad at Kayte Lane, including Mark Pritchett, Ashley Caldwell, Sam Blackie and his old university colleague Steve Davies.

“The aim for the rest of the season has to be a push at the top of the league and see where it takes us,” he said.

Dursley-based Parrott left Shortwood in 2014 to move to London and after returning to Gloucestershire he played for Cam Bulldogs and then switching to Brimscombe in summer of 2018.

“I’ve loved my time at Brimscombe and it really got me back to enjoying my football,” he said.

“They have a great management team and they are a proper club.”

Cleeve’s FA Vase run ended on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at Falmouth Town, ending the game with nine men as Matt Sysum and Archie Haskayne were both sent off.

Caldwell scored the Cleeve goal but Luke Banner and Luke Brabyn sent the Cornish side through.

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Ross Langworthy’s goal was not enough for Fairford as they were beaten 2-1 at Lydney Town.

Moreton Rangers scored a lastminute winner to see off Newent Town 3-2, Jamie Wyatt, Lee Brooks and Zac Ellis on target, while Jordan Bryan netted for Cheltenham Saracens but they went down 2-1 at Wellington.
