Front pair ‘in a good place’ – boss Duff

-

ALFIE May and George Lloyd are good friends off the field – and that is helping them form a partnership on it.

Despite drawing a blank on Saturday at Salford, missing several good chances between them, manager Michael Duff is continuing to back them.

“With every centre forward, it’s when the chances dry up that you start worrying,” he said.

“They’ll know they probably should score one of the chances between them, but you get those days.

“One thing you know as a centrehalf – and I’m an ex-centre-half – is no matter whether they score or not, you are in for a game with those two.

“They’ll move you around, run in behind, and they both play bigger than they actually are, in terms of size.

“The fact they get on is great. It doesn’t really mean anything to me because I think most of the lads do get on, but they do seem to have hit it off.

“I am forever seeing them play table tennis together in the canteen and I think Lloydy is the better player, which will annoy Alfie!

“There is a definite chemistry between them on the pitch, which is the most important part.”

Many would have thought Lloyd would have had to get in the team ahead of May if he was going to play, but Duff says they have proved they can play together.

“Everyone assumes in this league you have to play a big one and a small one, which was never the case, and I said that at the start of the season,” said Duff.

“We played games where we have gone with the two bigger ones (Andy Williams and Reuben Reid) and at the minute, those two are doing really well.

“They do play bigger than what they are and Lloydy is good in the air. Alfie can use his body and pin people.

“They are going well and they are in a good place, so it’s pleasing for us.”
