Almost one in 10 in county vaccinated against Covid-19
» NEARLY 10 per cent of Gloucestershire will be vaccinated against coronavirus by the end of the week as the third batch of the vaccine arrives in the county.
Over-75s began receiving the jab yesterday as the county remains ahead of most of the UK with its vaccination programme.
Nearly 20 per cent of the high-risk groups will be vaccinated by the end of the week, which brings the total proportion of the population of vaccinated people in Gloucestershire close to 10 per cent.
NHS GP partner in the Cotswolds Dr Mark Porter shared the news on Twitter on Tuesday, adding: “We now have kit to start vaccinating care home residents and staff (at last). It’s going to be a very busy week – again. Please be careful.”
When asked whether everyone in groups one and two had been vaccinated and about the situation in care homes, he responded: “Care homes on hold awaiting central guidance and necessary kit to transport fragile vaccine and maintain cold chain (we cover 600 sq miles), so we set to work with over-80s and have just moved to over-75s.
“Now we have kit and vaccine for homes and starting them too – finally.”
The sites where vaccinations are taking place across Gloucestershire are currently: Cheltenham East Fire Station; North Cotswold Hospital, Moreton in Marsh; The Devereux Centre, Tewkesbury; Rosebank Surgery, Gloucester; Vale Community Hospital, Dursley; Churchdown Community Centre; Rowcroft Medical Centre, Stroud; Old Cinderford Health Centre, Forest of Dean; Cirencester Hospital; Beeches Green Health Centre, Stroud; Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Weekly Covid-19 vaccination stats are released nationally every Thursday and more accurate figures will become available then.
