Goalkeeper Lovett is enjoying life with table-topping Tigers

-

» RHYS Lovett has enjoyed a good start to life at Gloucester City.

The former Cheltenham Town goalkeeper has established himself as the Tigers’ number one since new boss Paul Groves was appointed.

In 11 appearances, 23-year-old Lovett has kept four clean sheets and was on the losing side for the first time in Monday’s 3-2 loss at Brackley Town.

He made two outstanding saves to keep out Leamington in Saturday’s 1-0 home victory.

Lovett spent five years at Cheltenham and is thoroughly enjoying his time at New Meadow Park so far.

“The players and staff have been great since the day I came in and I’ve loved working with Coley (Jake Cole),” he said.

“I’ve kept a few clean sheets as well which is good for a goalkeeper as you want as many as possible, but the lads have been brilliant in the games I’ve played and we’ve fought hard to get results.”

Lovett has started every game since Groves was appointed earlier this month.

“I’ve enjoyed working under the gaffer since he’s been in,” Lovett said. “He’s worked on a few things in training and you can see the lads doing it on a Saturday.

“The gaffer has played and coached at great levels and you can tell.”

City are sitting pretty at the summit after 15 matches and Lovett, part of the Cheltenham squad that won the National League title in 2015/16, is hoping to play a part in another promotion.

“The main target for everyone would be promotion which would be great,” he said.

“I have set a few personal goals, regarding the number of games I play and clean sheets too.”

GRANT Horton made his ninth appearance for National League South side Bath City on Monday.

Jerry Gill’s side were beaten 2-0 at home by Hungerford Town and sit 16th in the table.

Alex Addai has made three starts and two substitute appearances for National League side Maidenhead, scoring one goal and played 90 minutes in their 4-0 Boxing Day win over Wealdstone.

Tahvon Campbell was a second-half substitute in Gloucester City’s 3-2 loss at Brackley on Monday but stayed on the bench in their 1-0 Boxing Day win over Leamington.

He scored a hat-trick in City’s 7-1 FA Trophy win over Maldon and Tiptree on December 23.
