» The Cobalt Cancer Service are making their mobile CT scanners available to NHS England to support patients with the coronavirus, cancer and other urgent health conditions across the country to where they are needed. The Imaging Centres in Cheltenham and Birmingham will provide urgent scans for cancer patients to enable them to continue with their treatment. Further services proposed, the opportunity to implement a new blood testing service at The Cobalt Imaging Centre. The new equipment and service will mean that patients will not need to attend the hospital or the GP surgery to have a blood sample taken. The blood will be taken and analysed at Cobalt just before the scan. This will reduce the waiting times for scans, many of which are urgent oncology scans.
» Cancer charity, Cobalt, is organising a number of fund raising activates to support the work of cancer services in the area. Challenge your wits with our monthly quiz for you and your friends and family or on the next sunny day choose your favourite walk and step out with sponsorship to raise funds for Cobalt’s research nurses. You can also test your luck with our Quilt Raffle Fundraiser. The money raised from these activities will contribute towards four specialist research nursing posts in breast cancer and dementia research. Research nurses work alongside doctors and with patients for local, national and international research trials. These posts are not funded by the NHS and medical charity Cobalt needs to raise more than £100,000 each year in donations to fund these nurses.
