Thank you to NHS staff who looked after me

-

ABOUT two weeks ago I awoke feeling unwell.

It was too early to phone my GP so I phoned 111 – the answer was prompt and professional, an ambulance was sent and arrived in the time promised, the paramedics were great and even went slow over the speed bumps to prevent my discomfort.

I was taken to Gloucester A&E where once again the care was top drawer.

After attention I was admitted to the cardiology care unit where everything was spotless.

The food was great, with plenty of choice.

A couple of days later after X-rays etc, I was transferred to Cheltenham cardiology care unit. Once again the place was spotless and the food was four or five star with plenty of choice, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all very friendly.

After a couple of days I was given a heart MOT by the team, which must be one of the best in the country, everything went like clockwork, and the technical equipment was right up to date.

After this attention I was taken to the cardiology ward where I remained for six or seven days. As I have already said the food and ward were perfect.

Even though all the staff were worthy of praise, I must mention one nurse, Carol from Cheltenham. She was responsible for my discharge and after giving me my take-home medication and the instructions, she came to the car park to make sure that my transport arrived.

It was quite cold outside but Carol insisted on waiting, even though my car was delayed for about 25 minutes.

Thanks again to everyone in Gloucester and Cheltenham, from the cleaners and the tea ladies to the student nurses trained nurses and the consultants.

You are all top of the list we should be proud of.

No wonder our NHS is the envy of the world – let’s make sure we keep it that way.

I was rather surprised to learn student nurses have to pay for the privilege of cleaning up after our accidents – these are our angels of tomorrow and we should encourage them in all ways possible. G Williams Tuffley
