Moreton boss Timms steps down from role

-

» NICK Timms has stepped down as manager of Hellenic League Division One West side Moreton Rangers after five years in charge.

“I am immensely proud of how far the club has come over the last five or six seasons, both on and off the field,” he said. “I feel that I am leaving the club in a very good position, and hopefully a fresh face and new ideas will help move the club on to the next level.

“I cannot thank the players and coaches (current and old) enough for all you have given me and the club.

“We have made some great memories, in particular the 2018/19 double-winning season.”

The club said: “Moreton Rangers FC would like to thank Nick for all his hard work and will make an announcement regarding his replacement soon.”

“Josh will be in on Thursday.” Scott Flinders replaced Griffiths in Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Morecambe and Duff admitted he had tough calls to make.

“People might think I just pick the same team every game, but it is debated every week,” said Duff.

“That’s a key one obviously as you have the one who has been in goal all season and the experienced one, who we know is a very good goalie.

“Unfortunately, for me, part of the job is making hard decisions.

“Last week we conceded one shot on target and lost the game, so it’s a case of being not good enough in both boxes.

“If we keep churning out performances like that, conceding two shots on target in three games, it’s unlikely if we do that over nine games we’ll lose two out of every three.

“The players don’t need focusing now, when we are into single figures of games left and we are second in the league.

“Hopefully motivation shouldn’t be a factor, so it’s up to the staff to set the team up, pick the right team, analyse the opposition and give the players the tactical information, and then it’s up to the players to deliver a performance.”

Tranmere have lost two in 18, or something like that. They have been on a good run for a long time and Keith (Hill) has got them going.”
