Tom follows younger brother in signing new deal
TOM Price has joined younger brother Ollie in signing a contract extension at Gloucestershire that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2023 season.
The 21-year-old all-rounder featured prominently in the second half of the 2021 LV= Insurance County Championship having completed his second year of studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Durham University in May.
Price played in the final six firstclass matches of the season as Gloucestershire battled for a place in Division One and finished the year with eight wins, more than any other county.
He said: “I love playing my cricket in Bristol and being part of this special club, so I’m very grateful for this opportunity.
“I’m really looking forward to building on the last couple of years and seeing what we can achieve.”
Having made his first-class debut in the Bob Willis Trophy last year, Price impressed at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
The right-handed batter finished the Festival with an average of 72 and took three wickets in 18 balls to help skittle Middlesex for 101 in the club’s victory.
He had two standout performances in the latter stages of the Championship, helping the county to two wins.
The first came against Northamptonshire at Bristol as the fast-medium seamer took career best figures of 7-111 in the match with four wickets falling in the opening innings.
Price then played a crucial part in the win over Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in the penultimate match of the season.
Following another destructive spell with the ball to take three wickets in 13 balls, Price recorded his maiden first-class half-century to tip the tie in Gloucestershire’s favour on the third day of the contest.
Performance Director Steve Snell said: “Extending Tom’s time at Gloucestershire is an exciting moment for the club.
“Tom is a player of extremely high potential and he has a calm and ambitious head on his shoulders. He has a committed attitude, and he is the type of character that will do whatever role is necessary to help the team get the job done.
“This attribute is one among many strong characteristics that the players, coaches and our supporters really admire in Tom.
“Tom has progressed over the past two years and has taken his opportunities when they came his way.
