Youngsters in fine form over short course

ALTHOUGH the second fixture in the Gloucester­shire Cross Country League was cancelled the replacemen­t short course fixture produced some exciting racing.

In the boys and girls Under-11 race, debutant Noah Chatterton was second with Monty Wilkins two seconds behind in third.

There were also two Harriers in the top three for the girls with Eleanor Thomson winning with Martha Marsden third, ahead of Heidi Woolley in fourth, Harriet Bennet fifth and Isla Harvey seventh.

There was a double Harrier win in the Under-13 race with Elijah Marsden taking the boys win and Maddie Thomson winning the girls race. Scarlett Eagland was fourth, Verity Lilley was fifth and Freya Braden ninth. Samuel Jarvis was sixth in he boys’ race.

Under-15 Dominic Martin beat team-mate Sam Wilson to avenge Wilson’s win at the County Schools two weeks previously.

Ellis Woolley was fourth in the girls’ race with Isobel Watt in fifth.

In the combined Under17, Under-20 and senior race, Kiya Dee got the better of her older rivals to finish first female and fourth overall, less than a minute behind the overall winner. Ellie Balfe was second.

At the Swindon Harriers 3000m Track Open Series, Jamie Harper knocked 10 seconds off his PB with 8:45.27.

In the same race Isaac Henderson ran 9:21.48.

Martin took the win in race one in a PB of 9:54.31 with Harriet Smith and Watt running PBS of 11:43.13 and 11:46.42.

Abigail Thornley ran 12:34.00 and there were PBS for Guy Green and Bexley Turbard in race four with 10:24.12 and 10:24.30.

At the Telford 10K, Chris Wagstaff ran an impressive 33:20. Kathryn Morton clocked 46:55, securing herself a spot on the England team for her age group at next year’s Bristol 10k.

Nick Holliday ran 38:41 and Paul Willis 46:22.
