» JB’S Jazz and Blues club kick off the new year on January 2 at the Civil Service Club, Tewkesbury Rd, Cheltenham.

Music will be played by Outfit Groove with a wide range of jazz tunes. Doors and bar open at noon.

Music from 12.30pm-3pm and all for only £5.

» You can recycle your Christmas trees from January 3 to 17 at the following places: Swindon Road Recycling Centre; Cheltenham Town Football club at Whaddon Road; The Racecourse; Old Pats Rugby Football club, Everest Road; B&Q Hatherley Lane.

» Online Skills (using tablets) is a free workshop designed to help you make the most of the Internet and increase your confidence online.

This course is suitable for complete beginners and tablets will be provided. The workshop takes place on Monday January 24 from 1pm to 3pm at Charlton Kings Library.

The workshop is funded by Fastershir­e, a partnershi­p between Herefordsh­ire Council and Gloucester­shire County Council to bring faster broadband to the two counties.

» The Regency Probus club which meets on Wednesday mornings at Cheltenham Bowling club has decided not to meet on January 5 and 12 in view of the current Covid situation.

I WILL post in this column in the New Year when the club decides it can meet again safely.

» I will put more details of meetings in next week’s column when we know what restrictio­ns the government intends to make.

» Serious Scam warning. There is a gang operating in the area targeting the 50+ age group.

They make contact by phone and pretend to be from “Safety Awareness in Cheltenham” and connected to First Responders, the service they purport to offer concerns safety alarm systems for your home plus and personal safety devices.

The matter has been reported to Gloucester police, who advise that you do not continue any conversati­on with them and do not invite them to your home, under any circumstan­ces.

» Bishop’s Cleeve Methodist Church, Wednesday Fellowship has resumed its meetings in the church hall on alternate Wednesdays at 2pm. The meetings are open to everyone and all are welcome to attend.

» Phone a Friend, do you have a little time each week to keep in touch with one or maybe two lonely folk who would value someone to talk to.

Being a phone buddy can make all the difference to their well-being. You may like to chat and pray with or for them and perhaps even visit if you’d like.

If you would like to know more or would be interested in some training, the Diocese run a Befriendin­g Course or Pastoral Assistant’s course.
