- Helen GADD helen.gadd@reachplc.com

DUST off your lightsaber, polish your sonic screwdriver and grab your robes from the back of the wardrobe – Gloucestershire’s very own sci-fi and fantasy convention is returning this summer.

Fantasy Forest is a two-day festival that brings all genres from the world of sci-fi and fantasy together in one place – that being Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe.

Revellers turn up in costumes inspired by books, movies, board games, historic re-enactment and more. So, expect to see Doctor Who, Stormtroopers, wizards, hobbits, elves, knights, Dothraki and even the odd Dalek or two.

Running on July 16 and 17, the family-friendly festival is welcoming and inclusive and packed full of entertainment, unique experiences, food and drink, workshops, demonstrations and market stalls.

Festival-goers can try their hand at a diverse range of craft and skills workshops, including coin-cutting, archery, juggling, axe throwing, Japanese sword fighting and the ever-popular wand making. You can even hone your skills to become a master Jedi.

Enjoy an eclectic range of live music across multiple stages, explore the UK’S largest selection of fantasy market stalls, participate in a spectacular costume show or listen to captivating stories from the Midnight Storytellers.

Dr Who fans will be delighted to visit the Tardis and meet a host of familiar characters, including Daleks. The Gloucestershire Troopers, Iconic Legends and 15th Cyber Legion will be dressed to impress in their screenaccurate costumes.

A new area named Steam Nation will be home to all things related to the wonderful world of Steampunk. Enjoy live entertainment from artists including the award-winning hip-hop maestro Professor Elemental, dynamic duo Victor and Bully and Alice Strange, and marvel at a spectacular four-metrehigh steampunk airship and trike.

A highlight of this year’s festival will take place on Sunday when the renowned 65-piece Film Orchestra performs a live, al fresco concert in the castle grounds, playing themes from fan favourites including Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, World of Warcraft and Dr Who.

Weekend camping tickets have already sold out for the second year running, but day and weekend (noncamping) tickets are available. Children

under seven are free and dogs are welcome in most areas, providing they remain on a lead and owners clean up after them. Free on-site parking is available throughout the weekend.
