Cirenceste­r’s Day suffers head injury in crash

» BRITISH Supersport motorbike racer Josh Day, from Cirenceste­r, has reportedly been brought out of coma after a horrific crash at Donington Park at the weekend.

Day suffered a “significan­t head injury” in a collision during a British Supersport event on Saturday.

The rider was placed into a medically induced coma, according to reports.

But he has since been woken up and he has managed to eat some soft food and drink, Bike Sport News reported.

Day and David Jones collided during the opening lap, causing a red flag and a delay to the race of more than an hour.

Day is being treated at the Queens Medical Centre/university Hospital, Nottingham.

MSVR, event organisers, said on Saturday night: “In the Quattro

Group British Supersport Championsh­ip Race at Donington Park circuit earlier today (Saturday), Josh Day and David Jones crashed heavily on the first lap of the race exiting Roberts Corner. The race was immediatel­y red flagged.

“Josh Day sustained a significan­t head injury. He was stabilised and put in a medically induced coma at the medical centre by the BSB medical team before being transferre­d to Queens Medical Centre/university Hospital, Nottingham for further investigat­ions and treatment.

“David Jones sustained a shoulder injury. Further informatio­n will be provided when available.”

In an update it’s been said that the sedation has been decreased so Day could wake up from the coma.

Crash reported: “The BSB Medical Team can provide the following update to Josh Day’s condition following consultati­on with his family:

“Josh’s sedation was decreased this morning so he could wake from the induced coma.

“He is becoming more alert and, despite a broken jaw, has managed to eat soft food and drink.”
