Skivington explains Singleton move

-

GLOUCESTER hooker Jack Singleton has been allowed to join Top 14 side Toulon for the remainder of the 2023/24 season to get regular first team rugby and rebuild his form following a lengthy injury layoff according to George Skivington.

England cap Singleton heads to the Mediterranean coast with immediate effect but the terms of his signing as a medical joker will see him return to Kingsholm ahead of the 2024/25 season. The 27-year-old hooker makes the move following a challenging year having suffered a significant leg injury against Northampton last season. He has spent the best part of 12 months rehabbing with the Gloucester Rugby medical team but has now returned to full fitness to find himself behind two international hookers in George Mcguigan and Santiago Socino in the pecking order at the Cherry and Whites.

Director of rugby, Skivington explained: “Jack has worked incredibly hard to return to full fitness following a nasty injury.

“We felt that it would be a good opportunity for Jack to get some regular rugby under his belt to help him get back to the levels we saw from him before his injury.

“With the injuries we had last season at hooker, we obviously brought in George Mcguigan to support Santi Socino, and then we had Seb Blake impressively step up from the academy, so we feel that hooker remains a strong position for us.

“We wish Jack all the best in Toulon, and we’re looking forward to having him back with us in the summer.”

Singleton’s move comes with financial advantages for Gloucester, either allowing the club to save on his salary, or opening up room to make additions to the squad if required.
