Radev exhibition and events mark a cultural first for Cheltenham
THIS year’s Radev exhibition at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum marks a significant cultural first for Cheltenham, bringing the largest number of pieces from the world-acclaimed Radev Collection to public view for the first time since 2011.
The exhibition hosts 79 pieces from the privately owned collection and has sparked significant interest and public acclaim since opening earlier this month. Pieces on display include works by iconic artists including Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani.
Pieces from The Wilson’s own collection that are also on display are accompanied by new work by acclaimed artist, designer and columnist Luke Edward Hall.
Hall has created an interior at The Wilson using the Radev Collection as inspiration, bringing to life the expressive interiors of the Bloomsbury group. The work explores how the homes of the iconic Bloomsbury group of creatives became sites for experiments in living where people lived surrounded by beauty and creativity.
Running alongside are a series of creative events to complement the exhibition and give visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the styles, stories and techniques of the legendary Bloomsbury movement.
Bloomsbury Bohemia is an experimental day of hand painting vases and vessels, led by Kimberly Ellen Hall, artist and illustration course leader at the University of Gloucestershire.
The workshop, on Saturday May 18, includes a tour of the exhibition for inspiration for an afternoon of freehand painting onto cardboard handmade eco vases, creating your own original artwork.
The Wild Textiles and Radical Interiors workshop, on Wednesday 5 June, is a chance to learn the styles and techniques of the Bloomsbury group painting patterns on fabric.
Led by Kim Hall, you will learn how to hand paint your own Charleston inspired design on to a length of fabric, taking home an original artwork to use in future creative projects.
