That was special, says Skivington

“IT was special” said George Skivington - “to win a trophy in Gloucester's 150th year, in a final at home, after nine years of hurt; that is special, that is historic.”

So it was only the Premiership Rugby Cup, the least prestigious of the three potential pieces of silverware up for grabs this season, but Friday night's final didn't feel like a development competition this season as both directors of rugby put out teams that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Gallagher Premiership.

The roar inside Kingsholm when the ball was put out for a 23-13 victory over Leicester signalled the fans knew that as well.

Rarely in 133 years of playing at Kingsholm have such decibels been repeatedly reached as the Cherry and Whites fans proved once again why their reputation as some of the best fans in club rugby is well earned.

“I feel like Gloucester Rugby deserves a trophy and all the supporters who turn up through thick and thin each week,” director of rugby Skivington said.

“There was a good bit of pressure on the lads this week to be honest because we know how long it has been.

“We are very grateful to all the supporters who come, our families and everyone who works at the club, they all deserve it.”

“The roar when the boys had their moments was special. It took a while to break Leicester down, the first half was a cagey affair.

“At half-time we just told them to go for it. Let's not finish this game hoping and waiting, let's go and go hard and I felt the boys did that and I am very proud of them for that.”
